The incredible shrinking narcissism
I feel I should clarify all these short, seemingly disjointed posts that are suddenly appearing on this blog and causing confusion to my dear sister.
After nearly eighteen months of doing my best to ignore and mock those using Twitter, I succumbed to the peer pressure after playing with someone else’s account for about a day. It’s a terribly sticky service for a self-proclaimed narcissist like myself. (Casey, feel free to mock me openly; I deserve it.)
Twitter is a microblogging service that gives the user 140 characters to answer a very simple question: what are you doing? That’s it; nothing more.
So for now, I have my Twitter updates being fed automatically into this blog. I’m reconsidering this because Tumblr provides no hook for indicating that the odd and very disjointed post came from Twitter.
(Marco, if you’re reading this, why not append a class name like “twitterPost” or some such thing that a user could style differently if he/she desired?)
Instead, I’m thinking of redesigning the blog so Twitter stuff is added to just the sidebar and is kept quarantined from my regular narcissist-based content. But I figured I’d ask you guys what you thought: inline Twitter updates, or segregated to a redesigned sidebar? Drop me a comment and let me know.
